the beat generation. beat comes from beaten down and was used by kerouac to describe a new wave of thinking for the new generation. allen ginsberg, jack kerouac and william s. burroughs were important writers and influencers during this period. they could wear short deck jackets, washed out sweatshirts, over-sized shirts, worn down jeans and old khakis
